Please join me every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.

The Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

“Im afraid,” said the little girl sitting on the bed. “Grandfather, can you stay with me.” Aloysius Starkweather made an impatient noise in the back of his throat as he drew a chair closer to the bedside and seated himself.

This character appears in the Clockwork Prince. He's not likable, but I suspect it is due to the fact that he lost a child or grandchild. I think we are about to find out the backstory of the little girl’s demise.
