To begin with the beginning of my life, I recall that I was born.
I won’t go back that far. I thought I’d tell you how I became a reader.
According to my mother, she read to me as a baby all the time. She attributes this to my love of reading. Of course I cannot verify that fact.
I do know that in pre-school, I greatly enjoyed story time. My favorite story was Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Every time we were asked to tell a story, this is the story that I would tell.
I learned to read while I was in kindergarten. When I entered the first grade I was in the advanced reading class. I always stayed in the advanced reading class.
I got my first library card when I was 8 years old. I drove my mom nuts making her take me back and forth to the library. I was irritated that I went through the local library’s stock of my favorite series quickly. I insisted that my mother take me to the library headquarters. My mom refused to take me more than once a week, so I had to stock up with the maximum books I could get. Books were a regular item on my Christmas list. They were the only books that were purchased for me.
I didn’t start collecting books until after college. There was this man in our church Dr. Santamaria who had an extensive home library. Before that day, I didn’t realize that anyone kept that many books in their home. I was inspired.
I started purchasing my first books in 2002. As of June 17 , 2011, I own 957 books.
Today is May 10, 2013, and I own 1,112 books.
